Little Kids Rock Benefit

The Little Kids Rock Benefit event took place the other night at The Hammerstein Ballroom. It was to raise money for children to continue their education in music in schools.

The kids got to perform with Steve Miller, Graham Nash, Darlene Love and Paul Shaffer. The music director was Will Lee. Hosted by Maureen Van Zandt. I was invited by my friend, Gary Lippman and his wife Vera. At our table were my friends Willie Nile and Simon Kirke (Bad Company, Free). There were lots of other friendly faces in the room too, like my friends Billy Amendola (Associate Editor of Modern Drummer ) and Jules Danza Follett (Sticks ‘n’ Skins author).

We were surprised by the kids who performed…they were absolutely fantastic and very knowledgeable about the music. You can see some of them in the video. The high point of the evening was the surprise guest presenter for Paul Shaffer, his old boss, David Letterman. He did a standup comedy routine, that I must say, I miss. He still has it. Just a great fun night of music!

Ever since I tasted these Shishito peppers, I think at Nobu in Malibu, they've become one of my favorites at restaurants when they have them. I decided to try and make this at home with a simple dipping of soy sauce and sesame oil.
